Dog Dreams
After the release of the Victory Songs CD, there was still enough good will between Mitch Cantor at Gadfly Records and myself for him to release one more record.
I knew this time around though, i wanted to get out of my comfort zone in Detroit and make a record with Jamie Hoover in Charlotte, NC. It ain’t always easy, but holding on to the idea and submitting to the idea that you always have more to learn about your craft, usually results in some good stretching and expansion. Being out of my comfort zone made for a really good adventure, and dare I say a pretty good record. Jamie Hoover had made a lot more records, and different kinds of records than Stew and I had. He knew more tricks and honestly, was a more polished musician than Stew or I.
A lot of of really nice things came out of this record. Probably the best things was doing shows with Jamie, Don Dixon, and Bill Lloyd as “The Hang Chads,” or as I preferred to call us the Four Stages of Baldness. I think we ended playing something like 16 shows together from NY to Detroit, Chicago, down to DC, Nashville, and in the Carolina’s. I can’t say all of the gigs were a resounding success, but they were fullfilling and heartmending for me. Being out on the road and playing shows for me was like seeing a long lost freind. I love those guys. Check out the record, it’s got some really strong songs and performances on it, from a lot of talented people. RC
